Current MMO Obsession

Aura Kingdom: the game that saved me from the Rusty Hearts fall.

Several months ago, Rusty Hearts, the MMO that I found through a game review and Steam, finally went under.  Months if not years of no updates, massive bugs and player abandonment left the game barren and fairly unplayable.

I am sad to lose my characters and the work I put in, though I'm not angry, this happens.

The Steam Summer Sale Cometh (though all I keep playing most nights is Amnesia)

Yes, the Steam Summer Sale is here.

For those not in the know (which means your probably aren't crying over your wallet right now like so many) Steam has an annual summer sale where many of their games go on sale, some to the point of 90% off.  (Possibly more but that's the highest I've personally seen).

They make it a full on event with 'points' for teams (that you are randomly assigned to upon doing things towards the event) where you can win games off your wishlist.

Quick First Impressions: Naruto Shippuden Legends: Akatsuki Rising

So Christmas has come and gone and I've been lucky enough to receive not only a new charger for my PSP from my in-laws but two 2 games.

I've never been shy about the fact that I love the Naruto series of games and while I'd heard some negative feedback on this game, I still wanted to give it a try.

And at least so far, the poor feedback is very warranted.

First off the English voicing acting is poor, which is a huge surprise since it's the main Naruto voice cast.  I think part of the problem is the cut scenes the character models are so clunky when the move, it makes the sentences need to be rather short and there's little time to get decent lines out.

Second, the game play is BORING.

Yes Naruto is first and foremost a fighting game and there's a certain amount of button mashing that can be part of it, but there was at least some skill in needing to get off certain moves.  Now doing Jutsu is a matter of holding down R then pressing the corresponding button to go along with it.  It makes for an awkward hold on top of just being a bit lame.

So far there is a lot of micromanaging with the character that has received little explanation.  Yes, I have the instruction manual, but for many games there is either a tutorial level and/or hints within the narrative of the game.

The game is set up like an RPG, which several of the other games were in that they had a story, but now there's an item shop, random scrap I can/need to sell and the use of healing items while active on the screen is another 'hold this press that'.

While I tend to have a preference for 2-D fighting games I have played a few with 3-D environments.  Which presents another challenge with trying to enjoy this game.

One of the strengths of the Naruto games has been consistency with what the buttons do from version to version, where there was some simplification going from the PS2 to the PSP, in this version there's a lot more different and I find myself just mashing one single button while I move the character, it makes for a lack-luster experience.

I will admit I'm not far in the game, and will be attempting to play more, but for first impressions, this is a game to seriously pass on.

Bosses that make one Crazy?

What is it about some game bosses that just get one's frustration level above the norm?

I get that bosses are supposed to b tough, but when does that difficulty go from challenging to just WHAT THE HELL annoying?
